International Artist Residency Opportunity

Yeyo Arts Collective is dedicated to the creative empowerment of women and families. Our organization was founded by intergenerational, black, mother artists and their supporters. We began operating a cooperative gallery in 2010 and continue our mission through a variety of programs. Girls Create is a seasonal program from young girls’ age 7-14 years old. Art Achievers works with young people to create group art projects and entrepreneurial ideas. Group Centered Leadership in the Arts is an intensive for emerging professional artists who has a strong connection to family. We have rotating short term programming and an educational curriculum for young people. While maintaining our gallery space we also exhibit nationally, as a group.

Ancestry has been a continued inquiry within our work. In our early group exhibitions we focused artworks surrounding our favorite ancestors, coordinated ancestor based workshops and honor our ancestors in our regular meeting practice. Ancestry taps into the core of our identities and creative processes.

We are pleased to announce a special opportunity for practicing artists in any discipline. Thanks to a generous gift, we will award one artist or artist group the opportunity to travel to their ancestral land. This international opportunity covers the travel expenses up to $3000.00. Artists of all disciplines are urged to apply.

Our organization takes special interest in black, brown, people of color, women artists, mother artists and family based artist teams. We urge all to apply.

Yeyo Arts Collective will accept applications until March 30, 2018. Please submit 5 samples of work, and a written statement as to why the experience will benefit your practice, with artist statement. Please include a resume and/or CV. We ask that the selected artist or artist team travel during the year of 2018. We ask that the artist or artist team complete the residency by coordinating a report back or culminating event in response to the experience.
